William Bell Dinsmoor (1886 - 1973)

Prior to World War II, William Bell Dinsmoor was professor of archaeology at Columbia and from 1936 to 1946 was President of the Archaeological Institute of America. During World War II, Dinsmoor was an original member of the Roberts Commission and worked as their representative abroad from April to July 1944. Dinsmoor was also the Chairman of the American Council of Learned Societies beginning in January 1943.
